I have been tracking all my working/learning hours with a time tracker for almost 4 years. It was a strange experience at times, especially at the beginning, but in the end, it turned out to be a very valuable journey. By doing this, I am now able to compete with myself in terms of how much time I spend learning/working per day, as well as just understand better what tasks I do every day.

I exported all 4 years of time tracking from my time tracker and analyzed them. Here are my main findings:

  • I have been trying to increase my working hours, but I stagnate between 180–200 hours per month.
  • I played with how much time I sleep and found that 6.5 hours per day is optimal for me. After that, I was able to start working a little more than before
  • My working time varied between 40% to 70% of the total tracked time per year, depending on what I was doing.

Now let’s dive into details..

The numbers

I could squeeze around 180 hours of focused work from myself per month. For the last couple of months, I was trying to get more working hours and there are 2 ways I am able to do it IF:

  • I woke up earlier
  • I made fewer pauses from work…
